Public Access

Northland has lots of amazing hiking and biking trails for locals and tourists to enjoy. Look for signage to show approved access. Please respect any 'no access' signs and do not proceed as you may be entering private land and/or there could be forestry work happening.

Below are two of Northland's best trails and some information about access, trail conditions, and what to expect when you are there.

Mt Tutamoe Track

Climb through Kaihu Forest to the top of Mount Tutamoe and you will be rewarded by spectacular, panoramic views of Dargaville, Kaipara, Maunganui Bluff to the south and west, Tangihua Forest and Whangārei Heads in the east.

Te Araroa Trail

From the northern cape of Te Rerenga Wairua to the southern bluff of Motupōhue, Te Araroa spans the length of Aotearoa New Zealand. Te Araroa is one of the world’s most diverse long-distance walking trails. The Te Araroa section takes you from historic Kerikeri via Kororipo Pa, through the Waitangi Forest to Mt Bledisloe and the iconic Treaty Grounds at Waitangi.
